Description
February 1876 (dated by Victorian stamped registration lozenge) exquisite silverplate and mother of pearl childs or Christening set comprised of three pieces of cutlery-a spoon, fork, and mother of pearl handled knife, in the original unusual lozenge shaped case. The case is lined in the original velvet and silk.
There is a lovely engraved pattern to both sides of the heel of the knife blade and the stems of the other two pieces, all having a planished background with decoration standing out in relief. The lusterous mother of pearl knife handle is hour glass shaped, and has no damage.
Size-fork is 6 3/8 inches long,knife is 7.5 inches long, and spoon is 6 3/8 inches long. The case overall is 9.5 inches long by 4 inches wide.
Weight-knife 42 grams, fork 33 grams, spoon 37 grams. Total with case weighs 310 grams before packing.
The elaborate flourished scrolled initials to all the pieces appear to be AB.
Made by very good makers William Hutton and Sons.
A beautiful set, very well presented and in very good condition. A perfect gift for a Christening, a child, or a collector of such sets.
