Description

Circa 1840 wonderful Old Sheffield Plate 3 piece entree dish consisting of detachable handle, lid and base.
Made by Roberts Smith and Co. of Sheffield.
Old Sheffield Plate is very collectable and highly sought after. It was made by a process of sandwiching a sheet of copper between two sheets of silver, and is no longer economical to make. It preceded the process of electroplating.
This multi lobed elegantly shaped dish has cast and applied foliate and shell trim and twisted branch and leaf handle. It configures to one covered dish or two open fully decorated servers, once handle is removed. There is matching chasing to the interior edge of the lid, so that when turned over and used as an open server, it perfectly matches the base dish.
Size-14 inches long by 10.5 inches wide by 7 inches high.
Weight-2.5 kilos.
With lovely family armorial, this is a really lovely and functional antique serving dish. All pieces have matching marks showing they have always been together. It will look beautiful on the dining table or sideboard, and will hold a good quantity of food.
In very good condition, with wonderful colour and patina, this is a truly elegant piece.
