Description
From a large private collection, a 1930 issued series of a complete set of a series of 25 Players cigarette cards, entitled Portals of the Past, professionally framed, double mounted, and glazed in a pale wood frame. The explanatory notes on the back of each card are preserved and visibly showing under clear perspex on the reverse, thereby having everything available to view but still protected for display.
These cards were given with cigarette packets by the John Player and Sons Company, and were produced as general interest cards to collect in a variety of subjects, beauties, sports, historic, etc.
This very attractive and complete series of 25 cards show various historic buildings in many of the counties in England, with titles and pictures to the front, and full explanations on the reverse.
A certificate to the back confirms that this is an original set. These sets were very popular in 1930 and are equally popular today.
Size-19 inches by 25 inches. Each individual card measures 2.5 inches by 3 inches.
A great item for the collector or to display, and having been preserved under glass, is in very good condition.
This would make a great memento of a trip to England. It is a wonderful collection and a pleasure to look at as well.
