Wonderful 19th century original etching of Cheyney Court Winchester, beautifully executed and titled and signed by the artist, Florence M Leicester, in pencil. A superb rendering of this 15thC beautiful timber framed triple gabled home of historic interest, in fine detail, including all the architectural details and even the magnificent wisteria. The castellated priory gate is also shown. This is the most photographed building in Winchester. From medieval times to 1835 it served as the Bishop's Court House. During this time the Bishop of Winchester held judicial power in the city.
Mounted in the original black wood glazed frame with replaced mount.
Size-12.5 inches by 16.5 inches overall. Opening size 6.25 inches by 8.5 inches.
Weight for shipping-1.08 kilos.
One of 3 original etchings by this artist (this one is the last remaining available). It would make a great memento of England, individually or hung in a group together.
A great piece in very good condition, with framing label by F J Salisbury of Tooting Road London to the reverse.
