Description

Birmingham 1898 Victorian English hallmarked solid silver cigarette or card case by famous makers Stephen Henry Deakin and John Horace Francis of the famous firm of Deakin and Francis.
It is very heavy and beautifully decorated on the top side and edge in a leafy foliate and scale pattern, with a vacant cartouche to the middle. The reverse side is plain.
There is a slight curve along the top side meant to make it comfortably held against the body. It is fairly deep, so can hold whatever contents you wish.
The heavy quality spring push button clasp opens to reveal the original silver gilt interior, and the original elastic retention holder.
Size-3 3/8 inches long by 2 3/8 inches wide by .75 inches deep.
Weight-95 grams.
It is unusual to find a Victorian example of one of these cases, and the quality is wonderful.
With just a couple of usage marks to the reverse side, this is in very good condition overall.
Still used for its original purpose today, and also now for business cards, trinkets, money, pills, etc.
