Description

Absolutely stunning Regency period pale mahogany secretaire chest with lovely boxwood, fruitwood and ebony inlay and a number of secret drawers.
The fall front drops to reveal a green tooled gilt embossed leather surface and 8 small ivory handled line inlaid drawers and 8 pigeon holes with shaped dividers and with double width line inlaid serpentine fronted drawers over. These surround a central beautifully line and fan inlaid locking cupboard (with key) having vertical ebony swag inlaid secret drawers to either side. There are also 3 secret inlaid drawers in the frieze, that spring open when released from underneath.
Underneath the fall front section of the chest are 3 large drawers for storage.
The top of the piece has a moulded edge, while the corners are classically fluted. The whole stands on shaped bracket feet with additional inlay above the front feet.
The brass gadrooned handles are original and very attractive.
Size-48 inches wide by 21 inches deep by 51.5 inches high.
This is a wonderful and unusual piece for dressing, writing, computer, storage and display.
With excellent figuring, colour, and patina, in very good condition, this is a substantial and wonderful chest for any room.
